I also want to point out that if you do use one of my links, I will make a small commission!

That’s how we keep the blog and the YouTube channel going 🙂

Anyway, let’s jump into this Jungle Scout Review!

Jungle scout consists of two parts, a web-based app, and a chrome extension. Let’s start by looking at the web application.

The Jungle Scout Web App

So, the web app consists of a few different tools:

  • The Product Database
  • The Product Tracker
  • Jungle Scout Supplier Database
  • Jungle Scout Niche Hunter
  • Keyword Scout
  • Jungle Scout Launch
  • Academy
  • Sales Analytics

I’m going to go through each of these tools, starting with the product database.

Product Database

Now, if you already sell on Amazon you will know about the importance of product research, after all, products are going to be the heartbeat of your amazon business.

Using this feature, jungle scout allows you to filter products across multiple categories by demand, price, estimated sales, reviews, and more.

With their database, you can search through thousands of different products based on the criteria you set.

I can tell you now, this is a very powerful feature and it can save you a lot of time.

With that being said, you can of course do this manually by trawling through the amazon pages yourself, you just need to know what you are looking for (I’m going to explain more about this later).

jungle scout product database

Jungle scout encourages you to think outside of the box, I’d encourage you to try and test different filters with this tool…

I’ve had great success when setting the max review rating to 3.5 stars and the monthly revenue to $5,000.

By using the above two points as filters you are going to find products that performing well with a low overall star rating…

This means the product has room for improvement, look for the customer pain points, and work with a factory to improve on what’s being offered currently!

Amazon doesn’t have to be swamped with competition, you just need to know where to look.

Product Tracker

So… next up we have the product tracker.

So, you’ve found a few products that take your fancy, well with this tool you can track and compare key product metrics without using complicated spreadsheets.

You can quickly find products you’ve discovered within the product database and add them to the product tracker.

This allows you to sound out the competition, you can keep an eye on the fluctuating best seller rank along with other important metrics like pricing, sales, and so on.

This data is like gold dust within the product selection process.

With the basic subscription you can track up to 150 products… which should be plenty for anyone that’s just starting out.

Supplier Database

This is a tool that has was one of the more recent releases and In my opinion, this is a game-changer.

viral launch vs jungle scout

These sorts of tools did actually exist previously but jungle scout have been the first popular Amazon-specific tool that has built something like this.

With this tool, you can search for suitable product suppliers…

To help you understand how you can use this tool to your advantage I’ve created a tutorial video to show you how to use it.

This could spell bad news for sites like Alibaba… It looks like Jungle scout is building their very own directory.

You can even search for suppliers based on your competitor’s information…

Yes, that’s right with this tool you’ve got a chance to find out which supplier your competitors are using.

You won’t be able to find everyone’s suppliers but over time I’m sure they’ll be adding more and more.

From what I understand this tool works by looking at a database of shipping information…

Once you enter a company name or product type, the database will search to find connecting supplier information, this could be a game-changer!

Niche Hunter

Last but not least, the Niche Hunter, sounds pretty intimidating doesn’t it, no? maybe that’s just me…

Anyway, this tool helps you qualify a niche as a whole.

It can also help you find useful keywords, it really can help you find real opportunities on amazon.

Let’s say that you are interested in the “Yoga” Niche, well this tool helps you delve deeper into this topic.

You can analyze the levels of demand along with the competition, you can even analyze the quality of your competitor’s listings.

If you are looking to build a brand, in a particular niche, the “Niche Hunter” may be what you are looking for.

With that being said, I don’t feel it’s necessary for everyone, after all, you can work all of this out yourself but be prepared as manual product research can take up a lot of your time.

Keyword Scout

With this tool, you get access to millions of data points to show you what Amazon customers are searching for…

You can even use this tool to reverse engineer the keywords that are performing for your competitors.

No company other than Amazon can give you exact figures here but I’ve found their data to be pretty accurate in the past.

If you want to be seen on Amazon you need to make sure you are targeting the right keywords…

Before you build out a listing I always recommend that you take the time to build a master keyword list.

If you sell within the Amazon EU marketplace this tool has you covered…

They hold search-specific data for both the US and EU Amazon Marketplaces.

You can look at the historical keyword data for up to two years in the past, this minimized the margin for error!

By using this tool you can find out which keywords are bringing in the traffic and sales for your competitors… This is golden information!

Jungle Scout Launch

This tool is a fairly new one!

Jungle scout actually acquired Jumpsend, this enabled them to roll out a tried and tested platform.

You can use this tool to automate your email follow-up campaigns…

But it doesn’t stop there, you can also use it to target ready-to-buy shoppers with promotions for your Amazon products.

This feature is great if you are wanting to launch or boost awareness for a particular product.

You can set up automated email campaigns for any of the Amazon marketplaces.

The promotion feature however is only currently available for the US and UK Amazon marketplaces.

If you are looking for an alternative tool to compare this one against have a read of my Jungle scout vs Viral launch article. It covers everything you need to know.

Jungle Scout Academy

jungle scout reviews

Another new addition to Jungle scouts web app… the academy is basically a mini-training portal.

Inside you’ll find a number of bite-sized tutorial videos that can help you learn more about selling on Amazon.

You can learn from the CEO of jungle scout (Greg Mercer) – He’s the guy you can see in the image above.

It’s worth mentioning that the training is quite basic but it will be useful for anyone starting out as an Amazon seller.

Another tool worth mentioning on the training/education side of things is Helium 10.

They partnered up with Freedom ticket to provide their sellers with the best possible training, I’ve completed the course and can happily recommend it.

Let’s move onto the last tool.

Sales Analytics

You may have noticed that this is now a tool a lot of the big Amazon software solutions are now providing.

It gives you the opportunity to track your profits and costs.

If you want a real picture of how your Amazon business is performing you need to understand your financial metrics.

With these insights, you can minimize expenses and work to increase your profits!

If you want to compare Jungle scout to another tool on this side of things you could have a look at my

Jungle Scout Pricing

Let’s talk about cost, this is obviously an important part of this review.

Now you have options here, you can choose to pay on a monthly or annual basis.

Are you asking yourself; Which jungle scout should I get?

Well, let’s look at the costs and we can work it out.

When I started out, I did all of my research manually, it helped me learn and understand the process then I moved onto tools like this.

If you can afford it I’d recommend getting tools like this upfront, it will save you a lot of time and you’ll be able to make more data-driven decisions.

Anyway, let’s move onto the next part.

I thought it made sense to cover jungle scout pricing in one section…

Now, let’s look at the Chrome extension.

The Jungle Scout Chrome Extension

Ok so in the early days, I spent a lot of time compiling spreadsheets in order to analyze some of my potential products.

It took ages!

Your products are the heartbeat of your amazon business so it’s a really important part of the process.

I first bought and installed the jungle scout chrome extension two years ago and it definitely made life a lot easier.

Think of the Jungle Scout Chrome Extension as a real-time, amazon data, fact-checker (wow, that was a mouthful).

It helps you qualify your potential product ideas.

It has been designed to make amazon product research easy and accurate, and to be fair it has always served me well.

Here is how it works…

So earlier on we talked about being interested in the “Yoga” niche.

Specifically, you are thinking wow I’d really like to come up with an all-singing, all-dancing “Yoga Mat”.

Well punch that keyword into amazon, click your chrome extension and watch the magic happen.

Check it out.

jungle scout review

Pretty cool right?

This is information is like gold dust, the importance of your product research process should not be underestimated!

The columns are pretty self-explanatory, from left to right you have;

  • Page position
  • Product Name
  • Brand
  • Price
  • Category
  • Best Seller Rank
  • Estimated Monthly Sales
  • Estimated Monthly Revenue
  • Number of Reviews
  • Review Rating
  • Seller (Amz means this is amazon’s listing, FBA means the listing is owned by a private FBA seller)

I’m a big fan of manually looking for potential products…

Even if you do things manually you’ll probably need a chrome extension like this.

Not only will it save you time, but it could also stop you from making a costly mistake.

How Much Does The Chrome Extension Cost?

A lot of people just use Jungle scout for the chrome extension side of things…

When I started out I did the same!

You used to have to purchase but the web app and the extension separately but now you get them both included in your subscription!

The Chrome extension in itself makes the package worth it.

Is The Chrome Extension Worth It?

For me, the chrome extension was a no-brainer!

I prefer to spend my time on other parts of the business, but we are all different!

If you want to read some testimonial’s from other people that have used both the web app and the chrome extension, you can do so by clicking here.

Now, these tools are great, but I think it’s important for you to learn how to carry out product research manually and that’s what I’m going to teach you in the next section.

How To Find Good Products Manually

The above tools are brilliant but I think as an amazon seller, you should know how to find good, profitable products the old-fashioned way. I’ve found some of my best products by digging through amazon manually, so how do I do it?

Ok, I use a few different methods to help me find products. First things first, brainstorming. Grab yourself a pen and paper and start listing down all of the hobbies and interests you can think of;

  • Yoga
  • Fishing
  • Cycling
  • Boxing
  • Football
  • Basketball

The list goes on, you can now do the same thing with general human needs, you might list down; back injury, knee pain, dieting, and so on.

Brainstorming is an important skill, the human brain is your best tool and one you can’t download online (well not yet anyway).

So you’ve now got some good ideas down on paper, it’s time to put on your scuba suit and dive into the darkest depths of amazon.

Punch one of your keywords into the Amazon search bar, you will see a list of auto-suggested terms below, these appear to be some of the most popular related keywords and products.

becoming an amazon seller
This list is like fuel to your brainstorming fire. Start clicking, analyzing levels of competition, pricing, bestseller ranks, and so on.

Within this image, you’ll see some numbers written next to each search term.

This is because I use a free chrome extension called keywords everywhere it’s another magical chrome extension and it’s free, so it works well for me.

I’ll explain what the figures mean, so next to “yoga socks” you’ll see 14,800/mo, this is the estimated number of monthly searches (potential customers putting this search term into the search bar).

Next up is the cost per click £0.62 (no need to pay much attention to this, this relates to google pay per click advertising)

Finally, we have the levels of competition – 1, this is an indication of how competitive this search term is (0.01 is the lowest and 1 is the highest).

Please Note: It’s worth mentioning that this tool is mainly used in conjunction with Google search, so it might not be 100% accurate, use it at your own risk.

I find it useful as an indication, but I understand at times it can be inaccurate.

So you are starting to delve deeper and deeper into the depths of Amazon, it’s not time to come up for air just yet.

For this example let’s say you are interested in selling “Yoga socks”, you click on this search term and you can start looking around at the competition.

At this point, I might click on one of the best listings, then I might look at this particular listings seller storefront, this way I can see if they sell any other interesting items.

All of these can go onto my master spreadsheet.

Here is another useful way to find further product ideas, when you are looking at a particular product listing, scroll further down the page and you will see a box;

“Customers who bought this item also bought”

This is another really useful section, start clicking through the products, analyzing the listings, and adding to your master spreadsheet as you see fit.

The most important part of analyzing the listing is understanding the “best sellers rank”.

For me, it’s important that you take a lot of value from this article, so I’m going to explain the best seller rank in the next section.

Understanding the best seller rank

The best seller rank is one of the most important aspects of an Amazon listing.

Only Amazon knows exactly how it works, but what we do know is; the lower the rank, the higher the sales within a 24 hour period. Let’s look at an example.
best seller rank

The above product details have been taken from one of the yoga sock listings we were looking at earlier.

You can see here that this particular product has an “Amazon Best Sellers Rank” of: #15,298, this will constantly fluctuate in line with the demand.

The more units this listing sells, the lower the ranking will go.

Jungle Scout Estimator

Jungle Scout also has a free product sales estimator you can use this to estimate the monthly sales, you can see the results for this listing below.

jungle scout sales estimator

and there you have it, as you can see, this best seller rank in clothing, shoes & jewelry is estimated to 447 sales per month.

At $10.99, that’s $4,912 in revenue.

This was a random product selection, I have no affiliation with this particular product.

I hope this example has helped you understand this important part of the product selection process.

Now you can take off the scuba suit, before we move onto the concluding section let’s have a look at one of my favorite jungle scout alternatives.

Alternatives To Jungle Scout

If for whatever reason you are looking for a jungle scout alternative, i can happily recommend helium 10.

Jungle scout vs helium 10 is the ultimate match-up between the amazon seller tool heavyweights!

It’s fair to say i now use helium 10 just as much as jungle scout, so i thought it was quite fitting as a jungle scout alternative.

Click here: If you would like to read my helium 10 review

It actually shows you step by step how I use the software within my own amazon fba business.

Don’t get me wrong, I like jungle scout but I also like to try out every tool available to me.

I’ve also written an article to give you a full list of my favorite free and paid jungle scout competitors.

Give it a read and let me know what you think, it took me quite a while to test out all of these tools!

Let’s finish off this Jungle Scout Review!

The Conclusion

I really hope this article has provided you with some value, after all that’s the aim of eBusiness Boss, we want to help you learn about making money online.

Let’s wrap things up!

As you can see above, you can manually carry out product research for yourself.

I recommend that you spend some time doing this, it will help you understand and navigate through the Amazon platform.

With that being said, Jungle Scout’s Web App can dramatically improve the process.

By using these tools, i can usually do three times the work, in half of the time, if you already have some experience selling on amazon you may be ready to use this product.

In my opinion, the chrome extension is a must-have, I wouldn’t be without it.
